How much does teeth whitening cost in Sunderland?

There's no NHS price, because the NHS doesn't provide whitening. Each practice sets its own fee, and we don't publish practice prices. When you ask for a quote, check:

  • whether a check-up is needed first and what it costs
  • whether the price covers home trays, in-surgery whitening or both
  • what top-up gel costs later

If you're an NHS patient at one of the seven practices that offer both, your check-ups stay on NHS charges. Band 1 costs £27.90 in England from 1 April 2026. The whitening is charged separately as private treatment.

How teeth whitening works

The NHS says whitening can be done with a mouthguard and bleaching gel you wear at home, or with laser whitening at the dentist. It also says that if you follow your dentist's advice, the effect may last for around 3 years.

Whitening lightens natural teeth. Ask your dentist what it will do for any crowns, fillings or veneers you already have.

What to check before you book

  • GDC registration. The NHS advises checking that the person doing your whitening is on the General Dental Council register. You can search it online for free.
  • Where it's done. The NHS says using a kit from a dentist, or having it done at a dental surgery, is the safest way. It warns that whitening from beauty salons, or kits from a pharmacy or online, may harm your teeth and gums.
  • The full price in writing, including trays and any top-ups.

Read our teeth whitening guide for more on the options. This page is general information, not dental advice.
